Alleviating boredom for the permanent residents is one of our greatest challenges here at WRR. One of the ways we address this is to conceal some of their food treats in small containers. Items such as mango and pineapple chunks or peanut butter sandwiches are concealed so that the bears, primates and others must think, plan and devise ways to access the sought-after treats.

Not every food item is suitable for every animal. Spinach, for example, cannot be fed to young animals as it can deplete the calcium from their developing bones and can cause severe crippling.

Some of the greatest needs for the WRR Nutrition Center are:

  • A commercial dishwasher
  • Upgrades to our lighting system
  • Three-compartment, stainless-steel sinks
  • Stainless-steel shelving
  • Commercial gel foam mats for the staff and apprentices who spend long hours standing and preparing animal diets

ABOUT

Wildlife Rescue’s Vision is that humans come to see that we are members of a vast life community, that we experience the proper gratitude and respect for this community, and that we live in a more appropriate and compassionate manner in relation to the whole.

WRR was founded in 1977 in San Antonio, Texas. Since 2001 its primary base of operations has been located on 212 acres near Kendalia, Texas, a property which was purchased through the generosity of three of our supporters.
